WORKS by JD has called the North Shore home since 2001. This corner of Massachusetts isn't just where we work — it's where we live, raise our families, and invest our futures. Better Together is our commitment to leave it better than we found it.
Better Together is our formal commitment to use our skills, time, and resources to help people and organizations on the North Shore who need it most. It's not a donation checkbox — it's hands, tools, and real construction work donated directly to the community.
Twice a year, the WORKS by JD crew takes on a community project — a home repair for a neighbor in need, a renovation for a local nonprofit, or a safety improvement for a family that couldn't otherwise afford it. We supply the labor, our material partners supply what they can, and we show up to work.
We've partnered with Beverly Housing Authority, North Shore Community Action Programs (NSCAP), Habitat for Humanity North Shore, and several private individuals who've been referred by local social services. Projects have ranged from accessible bathroom retrofits for elderly homeowners to full kitchen replacements for families in transitional housing.
We volunteer skilled labor on Habitat builds and dedicate one full crew-day per year to a Habitat critical repair project on the North Shore. Habitat brings the homeowners — we bring the tools and expertise.
We partner with BHA on accessibility retrofits — grab bars, roll-in showers, widened doorways, and ramp access for elderly and differently-abled residents in BHA properties.
NSCAP refers families experiencing housing instability who need critical home repairs. We do the work; NSCAP helps coordinate materials assistance and homeowner support.
In partnership with local VFW posts, we donate one veteran home repair project per year — anything from a leaking roof to a full bathroom renovation for a North Shore veteran family.
Jesse guest-lectures at Montserrat College of Art and Beverly High School's vocational building trades program — sharing the business and craft realities of a career in Design-Build construction.
Occasionally, we respond to households that experience a critical failure — structural, fire, or flood damage — with emergency stabilization work while longer-term solutions are arranged.
We accept project nominations from partner organizations, community members, and social service providers. We can't take on every request, but we read every one and respond to all referrals from partner organizations within 10 days.
Good candidates for Better Together projects:
If you're a nonprofit, housing authority, or social service organization operating on the North Shore, we'd like to hear from you. Formal partner organizations receive priority referral processing and a dedicated project each year.
We currently have capacity for one or two new partnership agreements per year. We ask partners to handle client coordination and material assistance — we provide the skilled labor and project management.
